What Is An Electric Shovel
Aug 13, 2025| Electric shovel is one of the main mining equipment in open-pit mines with a capacity of tens of millions of tons. It has high productivity, high operating rate, and low operating costs, and is recognized as a model in the mining industry. The electric shovel consists of a walking device, a rotating device, a working device, a lubrication system, and a gas supply system. The bucket is the main component of an electric shovel, which directly bears the force of the excavated ore, resulting in significant wear and tear. The boom is also one of the main components of the electric shovel during excavation, connecting and supporting the bucket, and transmitting the pushing force to the bucket. The bucket completes the excavation of soil under the combined action of pushing and lifting force.
Electric shovel is the main mining equipment for various open-pit mines in modern times. Electric shovel buckets are usually rigidly fixed on the boom and pulled into the material to be excavated by steel ropes. They can only perform forced circular motion in one direction, rather than working according to the composition of the excavated material, making it impossible for the bucket to follow the ore bed. The electric shovel can only exert its digging force in one direction, so the weight of its working device must be very large to resist its digging force. In order to balance it, the weight of the machine body also increases accordingly. Therefore, the overall weight of a mechanical electric shovel is very large and may require counterweight. The excavation force on the bucket comes from the vertical component of the rope tension. Generally, only 28% -60% of the static rope tension can be used for excavation.
